The gemstone ruby has been mentioned in myths and legends for thousands of years. Through many ages it was a favored talisman of nobles all over the world. Catherine of Aragon wore a lesser-known kind of ruby and rumour has it that it made her dull and spiteful, forcing Henry VII to divorce her. King Henry V wore a black ruby on his helmet while he fought the French in 1415. Engraved rubies are very popular for attracting wealth and raising magical energy. The favored figures for engraving are dragons and snakes. Ruby is considered one of the most important gifts in honor of Buddha and Krishna. Hindus believe that the red glow of the stone comes from an inner flame that no one can put out. Ruby is one of the best gemstones for jewelry and adornments. It can be found in every shade of red, from pink to purple or brownish red. Their coloring is due to the chromium and iron content in the stone. Crystals are often prone to breaking, but ruby is a very hard mineral and only diamond is harder than it. In 1902 the Frenchman Auguste Verneuil produced the first synthetic ruby crystal, by fusing aluminium oxide powder with a burner. Today ruby is up to 10 times more valuable than a diamond of the same carat and clarity. A perfect semi-transparent ruby is a great rarity. Stones larger than 5 carat with perfect clarity are exceptionally rare and at auction their price can reach 1 million dollars per carat. Associations: Mars Traditional birthstone for the month of July. A stone of the sign of Aries. It symbolizes love and passion and is associated with vitality and other strong feelings. Meditating with ruby will activate your root chakra and will send fresh energy to your other chakras, including the heart chakra. Ruby is a wonderful gemstone that will bring fire into your life. If you want to live an intense life but find it hard to keep your concentration, ruby will help you keep your focus and bring more clarity and wisdom into your life. This stone will help you choose the best path for you. With its power ruby will fire up your passions and help you stay motivated. You will be much stronger when you resist the self-destructive patterns you have had in the past. Ruby is a great shield against harmful intentions. If you find yourself in some legal dispute or personal conflict, this stone will help you reach the right outcome. Ruby protects you from psychic or physical attacks. One legend tells that ruby protects your garden from spring storms. If you bless all four corners of your garden with ruby you will protect it from wind, rain and hail. If you put a ruby by your bed it will encourage your dreams, with your conscious mind working together with your subconscious. With its help you will face your demons and will have the strength to defeat them. If you dream of a ruby it means that gains are on their way to you.

Virgos can benefit from the grounding and calming properties of carnelian. The crystal eases their tendency to overthink by encouraging mental clarity and positive thinking. It supports Virgo's analytical skills while encouraging a sense of inner peace, helping them meet life's challenges with calm and confidence. The crystal also encourages Virgos to embrace their creativity and step out of their comfort zones. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this stone is deeply connected to several chakras and affects them profoundly. The root chakra (Muladhara). The crystal is strongly linked to the root chakra, the first in a person's energy system, located at the base of the spine. This energy center is connected with the sense of safety, security and grounding. The stone's vibrant energy invigorates the root chakra, strengthening a person's connection with the physical world. By energising this chakra, the stone helps disperse fears and worries, encouraging a solid foundation for personal growth. This grounding effect lets a person feel more centered and anchored in the present moment, improving the overall sense of stability. The sacral chakra (Svadhisthana). Perhaps carnelian's deepest connection is with the sacral chakra, located just below the navel. This chakra governs emotions, creativity and sexual energy. The crystal's warm, stimulating vibrations awaken the sacral chakra, releasing a flow of creative energy and passion. This earthly gift improves the capacity for pleasure and joy, which makes it a powerful ally for artists and makers. By balancing this chakra, the stone helps harmonize the emotions and encourages a healthy flow of life energy. It encourages a positive relationship with sensuality and helps dissolve blockages connected with intimacy and self-expression. The solar plexus chakra (Manipura). Carnelian's fiery essence kindles this energy center, raising self-esteem and personal power. It encourages decisive action and the pursuit of goals with resolve and courage. By strengthening this chakra, the crystal improves the ability to stand up for yourself and trust your own abilities. It helps overcome procrastination and encourages a proactive attitude to life's challenges, instilling a sense of purpose and direction. This is a fire stone, so a great way to cleanse it is with fire, sun or smoke. You can leave it beside a lit fire for a while so that it takes in the heat, or place it on the windowsill or outside for the morning or the late afternoon sun. Be careful with the bright midday sun, as too much sunlight can fade it over time. You can also use smouldering smoke from your favorite herbs, wood or incense as a quick cleanse, or hold it for a short while under cool water to restore its nourishing essence.

Opal – a mysterious and captivating stone showing a rainbow-like iridescence, changing its colours with the angle of viewing. This phenomenon of opalescent reflection is one of the factors responsible for the elusive nature of the stone. Different depths of colour appear when it is viewed from different angles, as if the stone never settles its essence enough to be met directly. It can only be appreciated for its ever-changing colour spectrum and effects as it plays with the delight of one's senses. Opal is a stone of inspiration, and it also improves imagination and creativity. It helps release inhibitions and improves memory. Opal is a strong spiritual stone and can help you stay „invisible“ in situations where you need to go unnoticed. It is known to bring happy dreams and to make the process of change easier. Opal is a silicate containing water, which in turn is linked to our emotions. It cleanses by amplifying and reflecting feelings, buried emotions and desires (including love and passion). From this come fewer inhibitions, more spontaneity, free visualisation, clearer imagination and more vivid dreams. Opals are known for strengthening the will to live. Linked to the heart, they are said to stimulate the glands and regulate metabolism. Opal has a beneficial effect on the human psyche, „pours in“ warm healing energy and restores harmony. Zodiac: Associations: All Planets Modern „birthstone“ for the month of October. The stone of Cancer, Libra, Pisces and Scorpio; opal is said to be ruled by Mercury. Chakra classification: Because of its different colours, opal can be used when working with various chakras. Blue: resonates with the 5th, the Throat Chakra, and improves communication, especially communication held back by a lack of self-confidence. Rainbow blue opal cleanses and gently tones the aura and all the chakras. Pink: helps cleanse and activate the first, the Base Chakra, and the second, the Sacral Chakra (the navel), giving a feeling of being „centred“. It can be especially useful in treating head pain caused by a blocked or unopened sixth chakra. Black / Brown / Grey: resonate with the second, the Sacral Chakra, and with the reproductive organs. Use together with fluorite to cleanse the aura and to prevent energy cords.
Tanzanite is one of the most treasured and rarest gemstones in the world, and its meaning and properties are a mystery to many people. Its origin, its unique color and its magical qualities make it attractive not only to collectors, but also to those who believe in the power of stones. In this article we will look in detail at what tanzanite is, what its properties and meaning are, and why it is so popular in jewelry. Tanzanite, named after Tanzania, its country of origin, was first found on 7 July 1967 by Manuel de Souza. Called by some Mad Manuel, this colorful figure was famous for his passion for travelling through the African bush in search of the unknown or even the undiscoverable, as he liked to describe his pursuits. Born in Goa in 1913, at the age of 20 de Souza moved to Tanganyika, where he qualified as a master tailor. An adventurer by nature, he quickly grew tired of this trade and began his life as a prospector in the gold fields near Lupa in western Tanganyika, but moved to the Shinyanga diamond mines after post-war conditions made gold mining unprofitable. This venture became unprofitable in the 1960s, when a monopoly made it almost impossible to obtain permits for diamond prospectors, which led Manuel to move to the Kilimanjaro region, where he went on prospecting around Lake Victoria, supplementing his income with tailoring. Around Easter in 1967 his restless spirit made him hire a pickup truck, which left him in the bush in the area south-east of Arusha. As chance would have it, the driver refused to go further than the Maasai village of Mtakuja; with no way to move his equipment any further, Manuel was forced to look for gemstones in that area. After hiring four Maasai as porters, he set off on an expedition, and around noon on 7 July he found a clear blue stone which he at first took for a sapphire. After testing its hardness, he immediately realized he had not found a sapphire, but he took the stone to Arusha anyway, where he tried to identify it by checking a small volume on mineralogy, which was the only reference book he had. The closest match for this stone that he could find was olivine, and so the first tanzanite was registered in his name on 25 July 1967 - only as olivine. It soon became clear that this gemstone was not olivine or peridot; dumortierite, cordierite and zoisite were also ruled out. In the end the stones were sent to the Gemological Institute of America, where they had the equipment needed to identify the stone accurately as zoisite. At about the same time samples were identified at Harvard University, the British Museum, Heidelberg University, and by a geologist from the Tanzanian government named Ian McCloud, who was the first to identify it correctly. Although beautiful jewelry was made from these stones, there was still no established market for this material; the head of the jewelry department of "Saks" in New York refused to sell the stone. Finally two rings made from the original find were shown to the vice president of "Tiffany", who was so struck by the beauty of the stone that he named it tanzanite. And so a new market was created. It is very unusual for a recently discovered gemstone to have an effect on the world gemstone market. This happened with Paraiba tourmaline in the 1990s. But the case of tanzanite in the 1960s is even more intriguing. Tanzanite, a rare violet-blue form of the mineral zoisite, was found in 1967 in Tanzania. East Africa remains the only source of tanzanite and the reserves are extremely limited. The limited reserves, together with the increased demand, have caused lastingly high prices. The enormous popularity of tanzanite is not at all surprising.

The gemstone occurs in two forms: black star diopside and chrome diopside (containing chromium, which gives it the rich green color). Diopside is said to encourage a positive attitude to life and to provide a well-balanced temperament in general. It can help its user in solving problems that have burdened him for years. It connects with the inner nature of people and the hidden secrets of the Universe, and it can release deeply buried feelings, suppressed for years and causing headaches, raised blood pressure and other obsessive forms of them. It is also wonderful for supporting older people, so that they cope more easily with physical and mental impairments, as well as with other degenerative conditions. Diopside is a helper in making connections with spiritual teachers and guides. It is a good stone to wear during the retrogrades of Jupiter. Through its gentle vibrations and energies Diopside will help us by softening the most negative effects of these retrogrades, which cause setbacks in our personal life. Associations: Jupiter and Mercury Not a “Birthstone” for a particular month. A stone of Gemini. If you dream of Diopside – this is a sign to rethink your plans and goals. Chakra Classification: Diopside is most effective when it is used for the fourth – the Heart chakra, as well as for the fifth – the Throat chakra.
In the past peridot was more valuable than diamond. This stone is known by three names: Peridot, Chrysolith and Olivin, because peridot is a gemstone that is a variety of the mineral olivine. Gem dealers usually call it olivine, a name that comes from the Greek word "peridona", which means "gives plenty". Peridot is one of the few gemstones that occur in only one color. Its color is green with golden tints. This is because peridot is an iron-magnesium silicate, and the depth of its color depends on the amount of iron. Its shades can be yellow-green or brown-green. Peridot is a hard stone and reaches 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale. The most beautiful stones come from the border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan. It is also found in Myanmar, China, the USA, Africa and Australia. Associations: Venus and the Sun Traditional birthstone for the month of August. A stone of Virgo, Leo and Sagittarius. If you dream of peridot, it means you should be careful for a certain period of time. It clears and energizes the 4th chakra of the solar plexus. Because it has the property of sealing the solar plexus chakra. The stone cleanses and heals hurt feelings and a "bruised ego", it reduces anger, jealousy, resentment and spite, while teaching you to understand that holding on to people or to the past is counterproductive for growing as a person. Olivine passes on a lesson: to look back at the past for what the experience taught you, to admit mistakes and let go of guilt and blame, to forgive yourself or others in order to move on.
Topaz has a history that takes us two thousand years back. The ancient Greeks believed it was a mighty stone that increased the strength of its owner. The Egyptians and the Romans associated topaz with the sun god. Since the most distant antiquity topaz has been considered one of the most valuable, striking and even magical gemstones. Known as the stone of wisdom and spiritual strength, it was worn by ladies of the court in the hope of drawing more wealth to themselves, and by aristocrats in the hope of receiving guidance from above about the meaning of life and the path they had taken. Sung by the poets, topaz is to this day favoured by artistic people, by those with a particular eye for beauty. It is also the favorite stone of courtesans, which suggests that it is in its nature to be a symbol of passion and hot feelings. A stone for those born in December and for the signs Virgo, Scorpio and Aquarius.
