Pietersite

  • Pietersite - a crystal for magic! Child of the thunderstorms. The only mines are in Namibia and China.
  • Thousands of artists, intoxicated by pietersite's swirling patterns, have tried to capture its whimsical design on canvas. From a photograph it is almost impossible to get an idea of the fantastic play of light that kindles silky glints across its surface.
  • Pietersite is called the “thunderstone”, because, according to belief, it protects from storms and shipwrecks. But its mysterious power lies in awakening the sixth sense. Fortune-tellers and magicians do everything they can to get hold of this very rare magical crystal.
  • There are only two pietersite deposits in the world - the first is in Namibia. It was discovered in 1962 by the Namibian mineral dealer Sid Pieters. After the new stone was registered, Namibia imposed an embargo on exports, and its prices shot sky-high. The second deposit in the world is in the Chinese province of Hunan. In 1997 remarkable bluish and golden specimens of Chinese origin appeared on the market. Unfortunately, today the Chinese mine is exhausted and filled with water.
  • The stone has a hardness of 6.5-7 on the ten-point Mohs scale. It is a kind of chalcedony, so its main chemical composition is silicon dioxide. It is the product of turbulent geological processes in which veins of different composition were bent, pressed, even torn apart deep in the Earth, then fused again in later compaction and secondary filling and crystallization. It is wrong to call it hawk's eye or tiger's eye.
  • The pietersite palette
  • It can be blue, golden or red, and one stone may blaze with all these colors while another is patterned in a single range. Blue is the rarer color; its shades vary from pale blue to a dark midnight tone.
  • The gold shines with a deep, rich light that sometimes reaches fiery red. The finest pietersites are multicoloured - in different shades of blue, gold and red and with strong iridescence. All the color variations seem to be covered with a magic film of magnificent, dazzling glints - a bright, silky trembling of light that floats across the surface of the stone when you look at it from different sides.
  • It tames teenagers
  • It is believed to have an effect on the endocrine system, to improve the metabolism and to stabilize blood pressure. Worn regularly, it strengthens the memory. The thunderstone set in a gold mount helps with depressive states, and in a silver one it works as a protective amulet. And it also gives us:
  • concentration and efficiency;
  • the will not to put off today's work until tomorrow;
  • it opens the mind and, because it also turns our attention to the things that matter, it is hugely effective in meditation and spiritual work;
  • it guards you in storms and dangers. You can place it next to a tree or plant you look after outdoors, to protect it from thunder and hail. It is good to have pietersite in your car too;
  • it rescues you from quarrels at home and dramas at work;
  • it tames teenagers. With its help they will pass more easily through the hormonal storms and dramas of puberty.
  • Telepathy and shattering visions
  • It “grounds” the physical body, but not to the Earth - to our etheric body. It stimulates the Third Eye and the pineal gland and brings on shattering spiritual visions and telepathic insights. It works like a stimulant for the special “sight” of clairvoyants. It also activates the Third chakra - the solar plexus chakra - which gives strength of will and the ability to reach the goals we have set. It disperses the illusory feeling of loneliness.
  • It removes blockages and dispels confusion, frees us from other people's truths imposed on us in the past (by a parent, a teacher or another figure of authority, for instance) and lets us heal from the illnesses that strike us when we give up and stop following our own path. It connects us with our inner guide and helps us tell truth from lies in people's words unerringly. It can release us from oaths and promises given in past lives. It deeply cleanses the aura on every level and works as an accelerator on spiritual journeys, especially when reading the akashic records, when we try to learn the truth about our previous incarnations.
  • In meditation with movement it works with the body and helps us pass quickly into a very high state of altered consciousness. Pietersite brings us a daily awareness of the spiritual side of life; it reminds us that we are spiritual beings travelling through this material world.
  • Since it is associated with the planets Jupiter and Saturn, it can be said to be a stone of Sagittarius, Pisces, Capricorn and Aquarius. Even so, there is no evidence so far that pietersite works better for one zodiac sign than for the rest. As a talisman the thunderstone suits absolutely all signs. This stone cannot harm its owner in any way. It protects, gives courage and will, and grants insight. It is our connection with the Creator. If the owner has bad intentions, the magic of pietersite simply will not work.
